Lytro light field camera : Today in San Francisco, digital camera and imaging start-up Lytro is unveiling a client digital camera that it claims are going to be the largest technological jump since we tend to started talking megapixels over twenty years ago.

In case you haven’t been following along, here’s a fast rundown of what’s expected today:

Lytro, founded by Ren Ng in 2006, is an outgrowth of his Stanford University PhD analysis into what's referred to as “light field photography.”

Without obtaining too technical, light field camera captures light all throughout the scene in front of the lens, as opposition the cameras customers are used to, that bring a specific issue into focus 1st.

The result's a picture which will be targeted when it's taken, and, Lytro claims, a camera that's faster from power-up to capture, and has exceptional performance in low lightweight, even while not a flash.

Lytro claims it's spent the last 5 years and nearly $50 million from many of Silicon Valley’s heaviest-weight VC companies operating to pack all that technology into a camera sufficiently little to compete with the myriad point-and-shoots currently accessible.
